Athea Windfarm Project

Athea Wind Farms are located in County Limerick, approximately 10km to the north of Abbeyfeale. This includes Gate 1 , Gate 2 and Gate 3. This wind farm consists of 31 turbines distributed south-eastwards from the summit of Knocknathea across Knocknagornagh to Dromada mountain to give an installed capacity of 79mw (plus 28mw).

Finalising planning application for 20 megawatt windfarm (plus 32mw extension) in Askeaton, County Limerick

JANUARY 2013
‘Accumulative Assessment’ being undertaken by UCC regarding suitability of turbines in Special Areas of Conservation (SAC’s) This covers the Knocknagornagh project.

NOVEMBER 2012
Athea site facility now extended to 150 megawatts over many different clusters of turbines.

JULY 2012
Tradewinds sale of 79 megawatts of Gate 1 & 2 (priority 1 & 2) to SSE  (Airtrcity Ltd).

APRIL 2012
Secure planning permission for Athea Windfarm extension. Total planning consents now at 110 megawatts

CO2 Emissions

Switching to wind power significantly reduces the amount of CO2 emissions released into our atmosphere.
